Lesson Summaries
Lesson 1: One-of-a-Kind Book
It is even more important today that children discover and come to appreciate the incredible uniqueness and importance of the Word of God. More than just another book, the Bible is a gift from the Creator of the universe given to each and every child as a guide to help them get to know their maker, find salvation, and live the life He intended for them. Too often Bibles lay around ignored while the mystery and fascination for what lies between its covers has been lost. The goal of this lesson is to reignite in children a curiosity and respect for the Bible and the difference it can make in their lives if they learn how to use it.
Lesson 2: Exploring God's Word
This lesson will help children feel comfortable navigating their Bibles. They will gain a basic understanding of how the Bible is organized, how to find verses, and what some of the reference tools are that are found in common Bibles. They will be encouraged to make the Bible a tool that they can use and explore even as a child and that can make a real difference in their life today and in the years ahead if they will start now to master this amazing Book written by God.
Lesson 3: Cool Bible Tools
This lesson will help expand children's understanding of the Bible and ignite their curiosity by introducing them to reference tools, transforming the Bible from a giant book that is confusing and intimidating to one that is loaded with treasure and intrigue, just waiting to be discovered. Once children see that there is help to understanding the things that used to stop them, they will be encouraged to dive in deeper to this book that is studied and talked about so much at church. In addition, through atlases and archeological reference books, children will begin to see just how much the Bible is connected to the outside real world and what they see and hear at school, on television, in museums and in other books. While there is sometimes conflict between the Bible and what the world teaches – seeing the same names, places and topics brings excitement and relevance to a book that otherwise can seem dull and disconnected from daily life.
