Unit Summary
Many parents pray long and hard that their children will make good choices. It is essential that we equip children while they are young with decision-making skills that will enable them to weigh and evaluate alternatives. This unit will help your children understand the power they have to choose between right and wrong. They will learn how to win the spiritual battle that rages inside, as well as what to do after they make a bad choice — as we all do far too many times. You will encourage your kids to listen to the positive influences that help guide them toward sound choices along the way.
Lesson Summaries
Lesson 1: The Power to Choose
This lesson will introduce children to the concept that they have the gift of freedom of choice. They have the incredible ability to choose between right and wrong and the awesome responsibility that comes with that gift. They will be challenged to choose allegiance to God, to consider their attitude, as well as to make wise choices when it comes to their actions.
Lesson 2: Winning the Inner Battle
Why is it so hard to make good choices? This lesson addresses the inner spiritual battle that takes place within us and how Christians can turn to God for help in making good choices. It is only by surrendering to God and allowing Him to fight for us that we can live victoriously.
Lesson 3: After a Wrong Turn
Because all children (and adults) inevitably stumble, this lesson will deal with what we do after we make a poor decision. Too often children give up, settle for being a "troublemaker," or lie to cover up one bad decision with another — piling more bad decisions on top of others. What is needed is for children to repent and get back on track as quickly as possible.
Lesson 4: God-Given Guides
This lesson will help children understand that they are not alone. God has given them helpers in life. Often they view the authority figures in their lives as hindrances instead of helpers. This lesson will help them see that the adults in their lives — parents, pastors, and teachers — as gifts from God to help them make good choices: people they can learn to trust and turn to during tough times.
