Unit Summary
The purpose of the Christian life is to have a relationship with God. Too often people in the church place an emphasis on "getting saved" — but then what? While our ultimate destination with our Creator is to be cherished and celebrated, Jesus also died to welcome us into a relationship with Him during this life on earth! In this unit, your kids will learn tried-and-true techniques for enjoying a personal "quiet time" with God so they can deepen their friendship with Him. They will also discover how to enjoy the Lord's presence throughout the day and how to call on Him in times of need. Meeting with God is something we can do in a focused "quiet time," but God is also available anytime we want to experience His presence and power.
Lesson Summaries
Lesson 1: Ready! — Start with God
The first step in learning to meet with God is to follow Jesus' example and the examples of saints through the ages by getting away to focus on time with God in prayer and Bible reading. In this lesson, children will not only be challenged to have a daily quiet time with God but will also be given practical tips on how to plan this time so that they know what to do to make it a positive experience.
Lesson 2: Set! — Enjoy God's Presence
While a daily quiet time with God is a great thing, that should not be the end of a believer's time with God. Far from it! God desires for us to walk with Him and fellowship with Him throughout our day. In this lesson, children will be taught how to "practice the presence of God" so that they spend time with God all day long, no matter what they are doing!
Lesson 3: Go! — Walk in Victory
One of the best benefits of spending time with God and walking with Him is that we have an ever-present Helper in times of need. When we are aware of our relationship with God constantly, we are more likely to call upon Him for help and advice — not only in emergencies, but in the little things as well.
Lesson 4: Stay! — Linger with the Lord
One of the most meaningful concepts we can teach kids — something that many adults have never even discovered — is the incredible power of planning an extended time away with their Creator, Savior, and Friend. God longs to fellowship with us. In an extended time with the Lord, He has the opportunity to reveal things to us that we might not be open to or might not catch in rushed or short times with Him. This lesson will challenge children to plan these special times with God.
