Find out why kidmin is better than other ministries (a humorous approach)

That’s right, Children’s Ministry is superior!

By that I mean better/higher/cooler than all other ministries in the church. Don’t even think about disagreeing with this. Yes, I know all ministry is important, but you heard me correctly. I stand boldly and say, children’s ministry is superior to all other ministries. Test this. Read ahead while I prove it. Here we go!

1. Children’s ministry is superior because it is the only ministry with a PROMISE.

If you can get the water to the kid, then you have a reward coming. Do greeters get a reward for stuffing flyers in people’s hands? Maybe. Maybe not. But kids ministry people know for sure God will reward them. At least that’s what Jesus said. Matthew 10:42 says anyone blessing kids gets a reward they cannot lose. Jesus never said anything like that to greeters, ushers, deacons, choir members, parking attendants, etc.

“And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:42)

2. Jesus FOCUSED on kids.

Except for kids, Jesus didn’t seem to target specific groups. He called the kids to Himself but He never rounded up the seniors, or the teens, or the singles, etc.. He did specifically target kids. Jesus had an intentional children’s ministry but not, for instance, a senior citizen’s ministry.

Time after time, Jesus called kids to Himself (Mt. 18:2Mk. 10:14Lk. 18:16).

3. Children’s ministry is superior because it impacts an ENTIRE life.

An adult who comes to the Lord has already spent much of his life. Kids still have their entire lives ahead of them. D. Moody understood this.

After an evangelistic meeting Dwight L. Moody said two and a half people were converted to Christ. A friend asked if he meant, two adults and a child. Moody said just the opposite: two children and an adult. When a child is led to Christ, a whole life is saved!

If I could relive my life, I would devote my entire ministry to reaching children for God! (Dwight L. Moody)

4. Comes with more serious WARNINGS.

Jesus’ famous “millstone” warning in Luke 17:2 is ominous. So if you cause an old codger like me to stumble, the Lord would not be pleased but you would probably escape the millstone punishment. Just sayin’.

“It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.” (Luke 17:2)

5. Welcoming kids is like RECEIVING Jesus.

When you welcome a kid, you welcome Jesus. I don’t know how that works but it is an amazing statement from the mouth of Jesus.

“Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.” (Mark 9:37)

6. Jesus held up kids as EXAMPLES.

Jesus didn’t tell kids to act like adults. He told adults to be more like kids. What a reversal. Children’s ministry is an example to adult ministry.

“Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (Mt. 18:5).

So wrapping this up, it’s hard for us in children’s ministry to be humble. And for good reason. We are at the top of the ministry food chain.
