Topic: Earth Day Fun

April 22 is Earth Day. Take the day to teach kids what the BIBLE says about taking care of God’s Creation.

Going GreenGoofy Golf

Supplies: Plastic golf balls, golf putters, empty yogurt containers, paper, drinking straws, grocery bags, Recycled objects such as: ice cream pails, plastic pipes, fruit baskets, shoe boxes, cardboard poster tubes

Preparation: Divide the recycled objects into grocery bags. Each group should have one bag with a yogurt container, a drinking straw, paper, and a variety of recycled objects. Assign each group a hole number by writing it on their bag.

As a group design one hole of a mini-golf course using the items in your group’s bags. Use the yogurt cup for the "hole." (Do not dig a hole in the ground.) You may trade items with another group or use their left over items. Practice on the hole to make sure that the ball will go through all the areas. Make a flag for the hole using the paper and drinking straw and mark the hole number given for your group. Put it on the yogurt cup.

After all groups have created their hole, play the mini-golf course.

The idea of this activity is for kids to see that reusing and recycling objects can result in cheap fun. Try to get kids to think out of the box and to realize that always buying new toys, sporting equipment, etc. is not always necessary. By creating our own "play things" we are being good stewards of the things God has given us.

Fun Bible Memory Activity

The LORD is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made. Psalm 145:9

Teach the kids the following signs. (Some are ASL signs and some are not.) Say the verse while making the signs.

Lord = "L" shape with right hand to left shoulder and pull down to right waist
Good = hand with four fingers together and thumb out, put fingers on tip of chin and then bring out in front of the chin
All = right fist to left shoulder, move in front of you opening to a "L"

He = point to sky
Compassion = place right hand over left hand and slide it off, place left hand on right hand and slide it off, place right hand over left hand and slide it off
Made = put fists on top of each other and turn them opposite directions
