Transition Time

When do you have brief intermissions in your children’s services? Maybe it’s between choir practice and mid-week service; how about when the kids come in from playing outside and it’s time for a Bible story or the infamous intermission between Sunday School and Jr. Church? My personal favorite is when we’ve sung, colored, played, recited verses and I’ve just wrapped up the lesson and church runs for another 15 minutes! That’s what I like to refer to as “Transition Time.” Transition Time is all about “flow.” The flow of one activity into another. This can often be disastrous, without proper planning. Setting is the key to maintaining a smooth transition from one activity to another. If you create an atmosphere which requires their attention, you’ll get it. Have something going on as they enter the room. Avoid at all costs the “dead air” analogy, you know, the awkward silence between songs on the radio. 

There are several ways to prepare for a Transition Time. Below are listed types of settings for a transition. Also, listed are several activities that will keep your little sheep engaged, in their seats and out of their neighbor’s hair.*
