TODAY'S SHOW SPONSORED BY: Protect My Ministry
Today's podcast is in response to a listener who wrote, "I recently took this position in a growing church, but disorganization and lack of vision has caused the ministry to go downhill. I have a ton of kids and a very limited volunteer base. I listened to Episode 96 about how to gain, train, and retain volunteers in the church and I’m so inspired to try some of these techniques. I love the idea of finding the right people for the right roles, so my question for you is this, what do I do with the holes I have in my volunteer team in the interim? I currently feel like I’m running myself ragged trying to fill all spaces myself." - Hannah
I invited Stanley back on the show to address Hannah's question, as I know she isn't alone in this struggle! You understand the ideal, but bridging the gap between NOW and how you'd like things to be, can be challenging!
Here is our outline:
PRAY – It starts with prayer. Matthew 9:37-38 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
PROTECT – Protect yourself. So no to anything you can’t do with adequate help. (Secret: It’s OK to postpone, combine or even cancel.) Refuse to run an understaffed ministry. Close rooms or classes. Some people need proof that the need is real.
PROCESS – What are the REAL needs? Look at attendance, age groups, current volunteers, and determine what is needed NOW. What is Mandatory vs. Optional The ideal is not always ideal, for the moment. It may be unrealistic.
PLAN – Triage Plan (short term) AND Long Term Plan (where you are headed) BE READY for 20 new volunteers! Job Descriptions, how to sign up, Orientation plan, assume success and be ready for it.
PROMOTE – Get the word out through positive promotion, posters, flyers, videos, social media, and PERSONAL INVITATIONS.
PRAISE – Don’t forget to celebrate every success. Remember to THANK those who Are already serving and helping and going above and beyond!
PERSEVERE! - God will honor your dedication and hard work. (Galatians 6:9)
