Someday is Just Another Word for Never

Everyone needs to almost die.

I know that seems like a horrible thing to say, but I mean it. As someone who has been struck by lightning and survived two heart attacks, one where I was brought back with paddles, I really do think your perspective on life changes dramatically when you have truly faced death.

We’ve all heard the phrase (or the song) "live like you are dying," or been asked, "What would you do if you knew you would die in a week, month or year?"

But when you actually, truly have a near-death experience it forces you to realize that long life is not something you should assume. So let me say it again, this time directly quoting something I wrote in my personal journal after my first heart attack:
