I started in children’s ministry at the age of ten after a Calling when a children’s evangelist came to our church. I told my mom, “That’s what I want to do when I grow up!” My mom’s answer? “What’s growing up got to do with anything? You can start this week!” She coached me through my first mini-lesson and had me in front of kids doing an object lesson… and I’ve been teaching kids ever since! There were no “Kids Pastors” when I started in kids ministry. There were no children’s ministry conferences or degrees, and books were limited and more focused on general Christian Education. But I dove in and started to learn. 

When the Internet appeared, I started sharing what I was learning on the first kids ministry website, known then as “The KidologyWeb.” This new book contains what I call “Kidology Theorems” – proven principles of kids ministry that I have learned over the years in the weekly laboratory of ministry to children. I share with you the tips and techniques I have learned over the years that aren’t always obvious. I’ve been a collector of pithy statements of wisdom and wit since childhood and love trying to reduce lessons learned into statements that are memorable so I don’t forget the things that I have learned along the way.
