Helpful notes on how to run a Baptism class for 3rd graders and up.

While sitting on the Church Baptism Team, we have read countless stories of adults who start with “I know I was baptized as a kid but I didn’t know what I was doing.”  Or “I just did it because my parents said I should or church leaders said I should.”  We decided that we did not want to be a part of continuing stories like this.  We want our kids to understand this next step of faith and be ready for it.  So, for one thing, we’ve made an arbitrary cut-off time of finishing 3rd grade.  (used to be 2nd grade but we moved it up).  Many educators agree that somewhere between 2nd and 3rd grade a child begins to understand more symbols and metaphors.
