Author/Source: Karl Bastian

Topic: Christmas

This is a retelling of the classic story of The Three Trees written by Karl Bastian, provided here in three different formats. The original author is unknown. This is Karl's version of the beautiful fable. Ideal for Christmas or Easter.

The classic fable of the three trees has been shared for decades. It is a beautiful story that illustrates in a powerful way how our loving God hears our dreams and fulfills them in ways we can never imagine. It has been told in many ways by many authors. Pastor Karl's mother wrote a Christmas play in the 1970's that had a profound impact on young Karl as he played a lumberjack in that production. Since then, various authors have retold the story in a variety of creative methods.

This is Karl's version - based on his memory of the story as told to him by his mother and with his own twist to share his hope that kids would understand that God loves them, hears their dreams, and has a plan for their lives too!

The story of God's Trees is offered here on Kidology with THREE METHODS to present the story.

A Story Script is provided simply for reading and enjoying. We know you and your children will enjoy this fresh retelling of this classic story.

Screen images are provided so that the story can be shared in a large group setting. These are created in standard 16:9 format in high resolution so they will look good on any size monitor or projection screen.

Along with the images, we provide an Illustrated Script so that as the story is presented, a media person can tell when to advance the images.

A Storybook version is provided so that the story can be told by a storyteller to a group of children. The video below explains how to print the book so that the illustrations are facing the audience while the text to read is facing the reader. It's a unique setup so that you don't have to print and bind it like a normal book.

DEDICATED TO PATTI BASTIAN:

As I wrote this story, I was moved to tears several times. I realized that while the story is very touching, my tears were not because of the story, it was because of how much my mom loved this story, and because of how much love she put in to bringing stories like this to life for children. Every time I cried, I smiled because it also brought back joy remembering her, knowing I now share in her joy by bringing this story back to life again for the children of my own church.

It was also deeply moving because my mom went to meet Jesus on Christmas morning, 1996 at the age of 53. I'm 52 and just survived a heart attack. There is much more I want to do to reach kids for Jesus. I'm so thankful to be here to continue her legacy.

Mom, you told me I'd be doing what you do someday. I am. (And it's even my job!)

Karl, Patti's hyper-active boy
